Kerala to become Total e-Governance State – From May 25

Kerala to become fully E- Governed state of India from Thursday, May 25.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to announce the state’s complete transition to an “e-governed” status, characterized by digitized, transparent, and efficient delivery of government services. This milestone positions Kerala as India’s leading state in terms of embracing digital governance, furthering its vision of becoming a knowledge-based society and economy while achieving 100% digital literacy. The government’s strategic policy initiatives have paved the way for this accomplishment, building on Kerala’s legacy as the first fully literate state in India and its ongoing efforts to become a digitally literate society.

The state’s achievement is highlighted by the establishment of an integrated online service delivery mechanism called e-Sevanam, which consolidates over 800 government services onto a single platform utilizing state-of-the-art technology. This comprehensive e-governance framework not only enables efficient online service delivery but also plays a crucial role in narrowing the digital divide by ensuring affordable access to digital infrastructure for all citizens. This transformation is vital in propelling Kerala toward its goal of becoming a digital society and achieving sustainable economic growth.

One significant step in this direction is the implementation of the Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON), which will greatly enhance connectivity across the state. Kerala stands out as the first Indian state to recognize internet access as a fundamental right for its citizens. The state government’s commitment to inclusivity extends to all sections of society, particularly the underprivileged and marginalized.

Alongside the e-Sevanam system, the State IT Mission has developed various digitized platforms and applications, such as e-Office File Flow, which streamline digital governance down to the village level. Furthermore, critical services across key domains including healthcare, education, land revenue, property documentation, public distribution systems, and social security payouts have already been digitized.

Over time, Kerala has successfully executed several significant projects like eDistrict, K-Swift, EHealth, ePDS, eCourt management, ERSS, Pol App, Cyber DOM, KITE, HSCAP, and Digital Survey Mission. The government release also highlights Kerala’s recognition as the top-performing state in the National e-Service Delivery Assessment conducted by the Government of India.

The declaration event will be presided over by State Transport Minister Antony Raju and attended by Chief Secretary V.P. Joy, Secretary Electronics and Information Technology Dr. Rathan U Kelkar, and other dignitaries.
